Wine Judging Competition Rules

1This competition is open to persons 21 years of age or older.
2Entries are limited to wines produced by amateur winemakers only.
3All wines entered must be on the entry form and all fees must accompany the entry form. Checks in the amount of $7.00 per bottle should be made out to LCSA. Wines become the property of the LCSA and none will be returned.
4Wines must be in standard 750 ml wine bottles. Exceptions will be made for aperitif and dessert wines.
5The neck of the bottle must be free of any labels, shrink-seals, wax, or any other identifying mark. A standard wine label is okay as long as it is not visible near the neck.
6The entries must be at the judging station before 3:00pm the day before the event. The judges’ decisions are final. Entrants are expected to pour their wines during the afternoon festival and compete for the People’s Choice awards. Booth space will be provided free of charge.
7At the competition, all entries will be placed in a brown paper bag and marked with only the wine entry number and category. The entry number will be the only way to identify an entry.
8Multiple entries are allowed in a single category, but an entrant may win only one ribbon per category, which will be for the highest scored wine submitted.
9LCSA reserves the right to change terms and conditions at any time.

The wine entries will be judged in the following categories:

  • Dry red wine — Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Malbec, Red Other
  • Dry white wine — Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, White Other
  • Rosé
  • Apertif, Dessert and Unique wine — all types

Note that wine classified as a specific varietal should contain 75% or more of the stated grape. If a category receives less than 2 bottles for judging, the category will not be judged and the lone entry will be added to the “Other” category.
